Old Newsletter Systems

Old Newsletter Systems

Oct. 20, 2021

For a long time, I’ve wanted the Newsletter to be a place where traders can go to get profitable ideas.

That’s still the case.

But we’ve talked about a lot of systems in the past year and I’ve gotten several emails lately asking about compiling an archive on settings from old Newsletters.

It might be helpful to track old systems and see how they do.

And, as far as systems, here’s the best tip I can give you:

If you want to know if a system works, watch it trade for six months or longer.

Guess what? If it’s profitable, it works.

We don’t need to be scolded by backtesting purists, and we don’t need to be swindled by online backtest scammers.

All we have to do is watch a system trade for an extended period of time. There’s no substitute for that.

And there never will be.

So here’s a system we talked about back in March 10, 2021. It’s on a 1-hour chart and uses the GBPJPY with the Master Trend robot.

It has no target and a stoploss of 260 pips. It moves to break-even after 60 pips and has timed exits of 130 on Long trades and 300 for Shorts. The trigger is a break above or below a Bollinger Bandâ„¢ with a 100 length and standard deviation of 3.

How has this done in 2021? Here’s the Equity Curve:

Trading 1 lot each time with no compounding, it’s hypothetically up $5,800 on the year: https://www.screencast.com/t/xaTtA0aka

And since it was in the Newsletter, it’s hypothetically up $2,179: https://www.screencast.com/t/P6YKYhk34CpK

It hasn’t traded a ton, but it’s done pretty well.

The truest measure of a valuable system is how it does going forward. A tracked archive of older systems would help us understand what really works.

We’ll take a look at another older system in the next Newsletter.

Always happy to have feedback.
