We’ve mentioned several times how tough 2023 has been for trend following strategies.
Many trend following superstars are negative this year after years of unbelievable performance.
But, today, we’ll look at a strategy that has performed well over the long-term and has managed to be hypothetically profitable in whipsawing, maddening 2023.
This strategy uses the Master Trend robot and combines two of our favorite indicators: Bollinger Bands™ and the RSI.
Here are the details.
And remember, the Master Trend robot takes a signal if EITHER of the indicators give a trigger. It’s giving more opportunities to trade, not less.
The Master Trend BB + RSI 1-Hour System (GBPJPY)
Long Entry: When price closes into Overbought (5 length, 70/30 overbought/oversold) or above the Upper Band (100 length, 3 st dev). Opposite is true for Short trades.
Target: 350 pips
Stop: 225 pips
Time Exit Long: 450 bars
Time Exit Short: 430 bars
Move to Break-Even: 150 pips (which has been a bad thing for many strategies this year)
Trading Window: Between 9-11 am EST
Despite the craziness of this year, it’s hypothetically profitable anyway (via Portfolio Architect):
That’s pretty good, considering the circumstances.
And here’s how this system has hypothetically done over the past five years:
It hasn’t made a million dollars in ten minutes but it has followed trends to some good hypothetical results over many different market conditions.
Having more chances to enter has helped.
